Roger Glover's original "Smoke On The Water" bass restored
Roger Glover of Deep Purple owns this bass and as the band evolved so did the bass. Rogers' needs have changed over the years and the bass reflected those changes so it was time to get the bass back into the shop and get that mojo workin'. Roger is a true legend and Denny Rauen gives special thanks to Greg Rzab for helping make this connection with Roger.
A little description of the work done; Denny inlayed a piece of maple to re-create the original rhythm pickup cavity and repaired the badly warped neck. Next he removed the Badass bridge and properly routed filled in area and refit an the original Rickenbacker bridge. Complete rewire to original spec assuring Roger would be able to tap back into that mojo this bass found in the many performances around the world. Finishing up with a well over-due fret job and setup had this bass melting into Rogers hands at first touch. A few snapshots along the way to show some of the process restoring this historic instrument. Greg Rzab (pictured in photo on left with long hair), a good friend of Roger and Denny, was instrumental in arranging the project and together posed for this picture as Roger recieved his restored gem.
Greg Rzab has toured with John Mayall, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Page & the Black Crows and Gov't Mule just to name a few.
